Irregular Galaxies

Irregular Galaxies

  • Structure: Lack a defined shape or structure, often appearing chaotic and disorganized. They usually have abundant gas and dust, which fosters new star formation.
  • Appearance: Can have an uneven distribution of stars, gas, and dust.
  • Irregular I: More complex structure, often with distinct clumps of star-forming regions. Example: The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC).
  • Irregular II: More irregular and less structured, often with less prominent star-forming regions. Example: The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC).
