The Polaris Program founded by Jared Isaacman and revealed in early 2022, is a pioneering, three-part crewed commercial spaceflight initiative to advance scientific research of the effect of Space travel on humans, to pave way for multiplanetary life. research to expand our knowledge of humans adapting, living, and working in space.
“After more than two years of training, we are excited to embark on this mission,” said Jared Isaacman, commander of the Polaris Dawn mission. “We are incredibly thankful for this opportunity and to the thousands of SpaceX engineers who have contributed to this endeavor. We hope the results from our mission will accelerate SpaceX’s vision to make life multiplanetary and support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and its efforts to improve global survival rates for childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Throughout our mission, we will aim to inspire humankind to look up and imagine what we can achieve here on Earth and in the worlds beyond our own.” -Jared Isaacman – Polaris Program founder.
The first crewed commercial spaceflight ‘Polaris Dawn’ will be sent on the Falcon 9 rocket, aboard the Dragon crewed capsule.
The Polaris Dawn crewed spaceflight will focus on many ‘firsts’ milestones, and endeavors, including pushing Falcon 9’s, and Dragon’s for maximum performance, to advance long duration flights:
1. The Dragon capsule will reach the highest altitude move through the Van Allen radiation belt 1,400 kilometers or 870 miles for Earth’s surface, the highest altitude since the Apollo program.
2. The flight Polaris Dawn will also focus on testing SpaceX’s new EVA spacesuit, with various iterations for mobility, and performance to analyze the effect of Space environment on astronaut during the first ever commercial spacewalk.
3. Laser communication test will occur between the Dragon Spacecraft, and Starlink satellites, using optical links, to advance the development of long-distance space communications.
4. Forty scientific experiments will be conducted to advance life on earth, and allow feasibility of long duration space-flights.
Polaris Dawn consists of a crew of 4 talented, and experienced pilot veterans, in the field of Operations, communications, and advance the common good of our societies, to form the stepping stone, and pass the torch for the next generations to come.
Jared Isaacman – Mission Commander
A s the CEO of Shift4 (NYSE: FOUR), the leader in integrated payment processing solutions, Jared has over 7,000 hours of experience in the aeronautics, and aviation industry, that places him as a veteran pilot, and astronaut. Jared is an advocate for making the world a better place, and giving the opportunity of an open world, for future generations, by raising funds; over $240 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® to eliminate childhood cancer, and raised money, and awareness for the Make-A-Wish-Foundation, as the commander of the Inspiration4 space mission, and two speed-around-the-world flights in 2008 and 2009 world records, respectively. He has also devoted every performance of his 100+ airshow as part of the Black Diamond Jet Team, to charitable causes, and co-founded Draken International, a private air force to train pilots for the United States Armed Forces.
Scott Poteet- Mission Pilot
20 years as an Air Force Veteran saw Scott “Kid” Poteet, lead as a command pilot with 3,200+ flying hours in the F-16, A-4, T-38, T-37, T-3, and Alpha Jet. Poteet accumulated 400 hours of combat time during Operations Northern Watch, Southern Watch, Joint Guardian, Freedom’s Sentinel, and Resolute Support. Retired with an Air Force Lieutenant Colonel ranking, the veteran is an experienced Commander of the 64th Aggressor Squadron, USAF Thunderbird #4 Demonstration Pilot, USAF Weapons School Graduate, Operational Test & Evaluation Pilot, and Flight Examiner. Scott spearheaded multiple roles as the Director of Business Development at Draken International and VP of Strategy at Shift4 (NYSE: FOUR), as well as raised hundreds of millions of dollars as the Mission Director of the Inspiration4 space mission St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® to eliminate childhood cancer. Poteet is a proficient triathlete competing in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii in over 10 ironman triathlons including Ironman World Championships.
Sarah Gillis - Mission Specialist
As a lead space operations engineer at SpaceX, Sarah Gillis trained NASA astronauts for the Demo-2 and Crew-1 missions, the stepping stone of the era of Spaceflight, the Inspiration4 astronauts, through her tenure as a lead space operation engineer at SpaceX and her dedication in navigating Astronaut training, and implementation for commercial, public, and private programs.
Gillis is a proficient space mission operator and who has supported SpaceX’s Dragon’s cargo resupply missions to and from the International Space Station as a Navigation Officer, and as a crew communicator for Dragon’s human spaceflight missions.
The skilled Space Operation leader started began with SpaceX as an intern on human-in-the-loop testing of the Dragon spacecraft interior prior to realizing her current full-time role in the astronaut training program.
In addition to being an avid space spokesperson, Sarah, is a nature lover, being an avid hiker, climber, and adventurer, a cup of hot coffee while camping in the wilderness.
The Lead space operation has designed ‘A Musician’s Guide to Reaching for the Stars’, in collaboration with El Sistema USA, to encourage students to unlock their potential, and discover the connections between music, creativity and exploration.
Anna Menon - Mission Specialist & Medical Officer
During an interactive field trip at NASA led by her teacher Alison Smith Balch (daughter of Space Shuttle Challenger pilot Michael J. Smith), Anna Menon developed her vision for Space-flight.
She will realize her dream by reading her book Kisses from Space inspired from her time as a trainee for the Polaris Dawn mission, and her longing to live this one-of-a-kind stepping stone mission with her family. Proceeds from her sales of the book will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.
A seven year pioneers at NASA as a biomedical flight controller for the International Space Station, and having facilitated international partner engineers and medical care, the Medical Officer, led the planning and execution of all biomedical operations for Expedition 47/48. The Mission Specialist led mission control operator of the Demo-2, Crew-1, CRS-22, CRS-23, Crew-3, Crew-4, and Axiom-1, Anna Menon leads the advance of crew operations, and pivots mission control as Mission Director, and crew communicator.
Menon has directed the evolution of Dargon’s crew flight, and integrity capabilities, facilitated a new role of crew communicator operator, and established integral, responses to vehicle emergencies such as a fire or cabin depressurization.
The humane astronaut, is adamant in using her skills, and knowledge in engineering to helping others, and allowing safer living environments. The advocate for a better world, aided the WHO during the 2015 Nepal earthquake in the department of water, and sanitation, and has volunteered Engineers Without Borders and Engineering World Health organizations.
In addition to pursuing her lifelong passion for space, Anna enjoys hiking, flying small airplanes, and salsa dancing, and her family is her precious gem, to whom she dedicates her Polaris Dawn mission.
